Homeopathy is a branch of medicine that has been around since 1796 and was founded by the German physician Samuel Hahnemann. It is one of the most popular forms of complementary medicine. Homeopathic medicines are made from natural substances tinctured down to very small doses, which stimulate mental, emotional and physical healing. Homeopathic remedies act according to the law of similars: "like cures like". This means that the remedy would cause symptoms of the illness in a well person, but cure the symptoms in a person who has the illness. Traditional medicine is considered allopathic; medicine having the opposite effect from those of the disease. General Rule of Thumb: Do not put anything in your mouth or on your lips 15 minutes before or after taking a homeopathic remedy, it can counteract the effect of the remedy. Also recommended is to avoid excess caffeine, Novocain, aromatic products, or inhalation of strong solvents/cleaners. Some medicines such as antibiotics and steroids can effect the effectiveness as well, so it is best to check with your homeopathic practitioner about any drugs you may be taking.
